Pura Vida
The Quepoa Indians inhabited the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area for about 600 years between 900 and 1756 A.D. One of the fiercest tribes in all the Americas, they scared away Ponce De Leon when he intended to land here in 1519, and managed to postpone Spanish occupation another 40 years. The Quepoa lived by the beach during the rainy season (June through December), and escaped the heat of the dry season by moving inland to live along the river banks from January though May.
